How to Check If a Welding Pressure Regulator Is Working or Not

A working regulator will:

  • Show a small pressure drop at gas start
  • Quickly return to the set pressure
  • Keep pressure stable during operation

Large pressure fluctuations indicate poor regulation performance.

Use soap water or approved leak detection fluid to check:

  • Cylinder-to-regulator connection
  • Outlet fitting and hose connection

If bubbles appear:

  • Close the cylinder valve immediately
  • Fix the connection or replace seals

Never use a regulator with continuous gas leakage.

  • Cannot adjust pressure: internal spring or diaphragm failure
  • Unstable output pressure: worn valve or damaged sealing parts
